A ROUND TABLE WAS HELD WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF THE NOBEL PRIZE LAUREATE

An international round table on Cooperation between Central Asian cities to improve air quality and combat climate change was held in Tashkent yesterday.

The participant of the event, Professor Ray Kwon Chung, winner of the IPPC Nobel Peace Prize, shared his thoughts on strengthening the potential of cities in the field of air quality management and mitigation of climate change.

The goal of the event was to identify the needs and opportunities for strengthening the potential of cities in air quality management and climate change mitigation, raising awareness among stakeholders on policy, technology, and institutional solutions, including joint financing mechanisms such as co-financing mechanisms. The discussion also aimed to exchange regional best practices, share technologies among participating cities, and promote knowledge exchange to enhance potential from the perspective of joint interests. Furthermore, the roundtable focused on addressing the increasing challenges of air quality and climate-related issues in Central Asian countries in the coming years by sharing knowledge, experience, and expertise among nations.
 

The organizers of the roundtable included the “New Climate Innovations Center,” “Clean Air Asia,” the Tashkent State University of Economics and its “Research Center,” the “Institute of Environmental and Nature Protection Technologies,” the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), and the Global Environmental Strategies Institute (IGES).
 

The international roundtable involved representatives from ministries and agencies, foreign experts with high expertise, research scholars, and media representatives.
 

During the discussion, issues related to improving air quality, mitigating climate change, and enhancing the institutional and technical capacity of major cities in Asia were discussed, with a focus on addressing these challenges in the region.
