PRESIDENT OF UZBEKISTAN CONGRATULATES TEACHERS AND MENTORS ON THEIR PROFESSIONAL HOLIDAY

Today, October 1st, Uzbekistan is widely celebrating Teachers and Mentors Day. On this occasion, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, extended his congratulations to educators across the country, recognizing their crucial role and contributions to society.

In his message, the President described the teaching profession as “the greatest and most noble calling”, emphasizing that educators play an irreplaceable role in building the future of the New Uzbekistan. He also highlighted major reforms and achievements in the education sector implemented over the past year.

Over recent years, Uzbekistan has undergone major educational reforms. Funding for science and education has increased sixfold, reaching 378 trillion soums. Hundreds of new kindergartens, schools, technical colleges, and universities have been built. Preschool enrollment has risen from 27% to 78%, and salaries for teachers and childcare workers have significantly increased.

A 12-year school education model has been introduced. Standardized national exams have been implemented, allowing graduates to enroll directly into technical schools and universities based on their results. The number of universities has grown from 77 to 202, with the total number of students reaching 1.5 million.

International programs are being adopted in vocational education, and the teaching of foreign languages is expanding. Teachers are being offered preferential loans for housing, equipment, and education. Additionally, public service fees have been reduced for workers in the education sector.

The President stressed that enhancing the status and prestige of the teaching profession will remain a key national priority. This direction has been identified as one of the most vital for the development of society.

“It is you, dear educators, who are nurturing the creators of the Third Renaissance,” the President said in his address to teachers.
