Students undergoing an internship in Japanese Philology at the Faculty of Oriental Philology of Uzbekistan State World Languages University were shown a traditional Japanese Tea ceremony, – “Chanoyu” (茶の湯) or “Sado” (茶道).

The event was organized by representatives of the University of Tsukuba — Matsumoto Ryo, Yoshida Kaito, as well as specialists from the JICA International Cooperation Agency — Sambongi Emiko and Ooori Manami, as well as teachers from the Department of Japanese Philology.

In Japan, the tea ceremony is an art and philosophy. This is not just the process of making and drinking tea, it is a tradition rich in philosophical, aesthetic and cultural aspects. This ritual is based on the principles of “wa, kei, sei, jaku” (和敬清寂) – respect, purity, and peace. These values encourage a person to inner peace, love of nature and beauty.

Today, the tea ceremony is widespread in Japan, and is also appreciated around the world as a symbol of cultural exchange and peace. For UZSWLU students, it was not only an experience of learning language and culture, but also an opportunity to deeply experience Japanese traditions.
