Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbai Sharipov held a meeting with a delegation led by the Mayor of the Italian city of Turin Stefano Lo Russo.

The parties discussed issues of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy in the field of education, science and innovation and the implementation of new initiatives.

The event was attended by Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Uzbekistan Piergabriele Papadia de Bottini, Rector of the Turin Polytechnic University Stefano Cornati, President of the Turin Chamber of Commerce and Industry Daro Gallina and other officials. The rector of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, also took part on behalf of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan in the field of higher education, cooperation with Italian universities and new projects were discussed.

In particular, initiatives such as the provision of study quotas for students from Uzbekistan at the Turin Polytechnic University, the creation of an incubator at the Turin Polytechnic University of Tashkent, as well as the creation of internship programs for students in Italian companies were put forward. Stefano Cornati, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin, expressed his support for the proposed initiatives.

Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo highly appreciated the long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan and put forward an initiative to develop the “Italian-Uzbek Advanced Engineering Center” in Tashkent.

As a result of negotiations between the two countries, an agreement was reached to expand cooperation in personnel training, entrepreneurship, and innovation, the implementation of joint projects and the development of cooperation in the fields of energy, environment, biotechnology and artificial intelligence.
