December 19, 2025

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his official visit to Japan on December 19 with a meeting with Emperor Naruhito.

Welcoming the Head of State, the Emperor of Japan emphasized that this visit by the President of Uzbekistan is an important milestone in further strengthening Uzbek–Japanese relations of friendship and strategic partnership.

The leader of our country expressed deep respect and gratitude to Emperor Naruhito for his consistent support of the irreversible reforms being carried out in New Uzbekistan.

It was noted that despite their geographical distance, the Uzbek and Japanese peoples are united by similarities in mentality, traditions, and family values, as well as centuries-old historical ties dating back to the era of the Great Silk Road.

Satisfaction was expressed with the steady expansion of bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of education, human resource development, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. To date, more than 3,000 Uzbek specialists have undergone training in Japan, while over 440 citizens have received higher education on a scholarship basis. Japanese language instruction is provided at seven universities in Uzbekistan.

As part of the current visit, the Days of Uzbek Culture were successfully held in Tokyo. Next year, it is planned to organize an archaeological exhibition dedicated to the culture and history of Uzbekistan in several cities of Japan.
