U.S.–UZBEKISTAN: TOWARD NEW HORIZONS OF COOPERATION IN EDUCATION

May 17, 2025

A delegation led by Adams Stewart, President of the Senate of the U.S. state of Utah, and Jeff Flake, head of the World Trade Organization, visited the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The guests were received by a delegation headed by Deputy Minister Sarvarxon Buzrukxonov. During the meeting, detailed information was presented about the ongoing reforms in the country’s higher education system, particularly the measures being taken to train qualified specialists in technical and engineering fields.

The dialogue also included discussions on prospects for cooperation in areas such as energy, information technology, mechanical engineering, architecture and construction, the chemical industry, agriculture, medicine, and pharmaceuticals.

It is worth noting that, as of today, around 40 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan are cooperating with more than 25 U.S. universities and educational institutions based on signed memorandums.

Within the framework of this partnership, a number of initiatives are being implemented, including academic exchanges of faculty and students, joint scientific research and forums, professional development programs, as well as lectures delivered by American specialists at universities in Uzbekistan.

As an example, Adams Stewart cited the U.S.–Uzbekistan Joint Scientific Conference held in May of this year in Samarkand, expressing confidence that such initiatives will further strengthen scientific cooperation between the two countries.
