EXPERTS DISCUSSED THE MEASURES TO FURTHER SUPPORT COOPERATION BETWEEN THE UK AND UZBEKISTAN IN THE FIELD OF TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION (TNE)

On January 10, 2024, British Deputy Foreign Secretary Leo Docherty paid an official visit to Uzbekistan.

In accordance with the program of the visit, a meeting was held at Westminster International University in Tashkent with the participation of Leo Docherty, First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan Komiljon Karimov, British Ambassador to Uzbekistan Timothy Smart, Director of the British Council Denis Waddingham, members of the British Parliament delegation and Rector of the International Westminster University in Tashkent Bakhrom Mirkasimov.

Prospective partnerships and ways to develop educational links between the UK and Uzbekistan were discussed, including ways to support the growing demand for English language teaching, the Uzbek government’s priorities in higher education and the successes of TNE, cooperation in education and measures to further develop them.

During the visit, Mr. Docherty was given a tour of the university, as well as a meeting with university students, during which students shared their thoughts about the academic and social life of the university.
