By decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Erkinjon Oqbutayevich Turdimov has been appointed First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan — Minister of Education and Science. In connection with this appointment, he has been relieved of his duties as Governor of Syrdarya Region.

Earlier, E. Turdimov’s candidacy was approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

In addition, a corresponding decree introduced the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan — Minister of Education and Science into the executive structure of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. A Secretariat for Education, Science and Healthcare was also established.

It was stipulated that, within the scope of his authority, the First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Education and Science would provide overall leadership and coordinate the activities of heads of republican executive bodies — ministries, committees, agencies and inspectorates — as well as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the khokims of the regions and Tashkent city, in carrying out their assigned duties and functions in education, science and healthcare.

Responsibility for overseeing implementation and organizing work in these areas was assigned to S. Sh. Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
